Questions to Ask Yourself Before Therapy
What is my aim in therapy?
Identifying what you would like to be different, even broadly, afterwards, if therapy were to be successful, is a great way to focus your treatment.
What are the past or current events, emotions, patterns, or stressors that I would like to work through?
What worked and did not work in previous therapy experiences I may have had?
Do I hold a negative view of therapy or have concerns or fears about starting?
Am I ready to prioritize time for myself?
Am I looking for a therapist who shares certain lived experiences, aligns on certain values, or has a certain style, approach, or expertise?
